Humming.

The room was red, blood red, but no one had seen blood before and couldn’t tell, so at first it was simply very red.

A large polished humming cube rose under a lifted veil of light, shining across the it like sun over river water.

They stood slowly out of the top of the box. They straightened their back and shifted weight from one hip to the other, and between the veil and the box They looked like a god shining beneath heaven.

Time passed but before someone could mark it They shifted again, and They cut a slit in their skin.

Blood trickled slowly, pulling their spine down crooked and bent them again into their box. Red everywhere around, in and out.

The stained humming cube began to lower again, and in sinking beneath the floor that holy veil followed until all that was left was nothing but the empty room.

At last it was blood red, that blood red room.
